ZTA selected SOA to design a new 28,414 sf sorority house for the University of Missouri Alpha Psi Chapter that would “wow” students and impress alumnae. The new, three-story structure with a basement houses 86 women plus a house director and completely replaces the original building. Among the most important design elements to the client were a grand front porch and entry foyer, but in addition to aesthetics, energy efficiency and maintenance were critical issues. A ground-source geothermal bore field will be installed in the parking lot to the south of the building, which is projected to save significant heating and cooling costs over the long term.
