Columbia Public Schools chose SOA to assist in the consolidation of staff, equipment and supplies from multiple locations into this new two-story, 42,000 s.f. building addition. To program the new building, SOA met with each department leader and surveyed approximately 150 staff members in an effort to quantify their space needs. The addition is positioned on the site to allow staff parking and deliveries on the back side of the building with visitor parking at the front. The interior layout allows for public access to the main reception, board and training rooms with secure separation of staff offices. It was important for the overall design to appear functional and practical, relating back to the existing building.
