SOA is pleased to announce that the Open House for our new building at 2801 Woodard Drive will be held on June 4th, starting at 3:45pm. We, along with our neighbors, CM Engineering and Working Spaces, will be open to the public for tours, refreshments and prizes.
One of the features of the new building that we are especially proud of is the rainwater collection tank. Buried on the west side of the building, a 10,000 gallon tank collects rainwater runoff from the roof. The rainwater is minimally filtered and then used for landscaping irrigation and sewage conveyance. We calculate that using rainwater to flush toilets and urinals throughout the building saves 100 gallons per day of potable water. Additionally, we estimate that the tank will also be able to provide for 80% of the landscaping irrigation needs, even in the hottest days of the summer.
To our knowledge, our building is the first commercial building in Columbia to harvest rainwater for both toilet flushing and landscaping irrigation. Residential scale rainwater collection, however, is gaining popularity in Columbia and towards that end, SOA will be giving away a City of Columbia Rain Barrel at our open house on June 4th. Other sustainable prizes will also be up for grabs at the Open House – keep an eye on our blog for more information!
