Enhanced student support and increased staff efficiencies are the drivers behind this multi-layered renovation of a 1920s dormitory into a LEED Silver Certified one-stop-shop for admissions and related functions. Cost neutral sustainable design incorporated restoration of specific historic elements that acknowledge traditions and sentimentality of the alumni while introducing contemporary materials and spaces to appeal to today’s students. The addition of an new elevator and egress stair improved the safety and function of the building. Significant repairs to the masonry exterior as well as roof, window and mechanical system replacements all contribute to the sustainability of this nearly 100 year old icon.
